Shogyō mujō 諸行無常

This kanji combination comes from Zen Buddhism.

諸行 'shogyō' can be translated as 'all worldly phenomena; meritorious deeds leading to enlightenment”無常 'mujō' means 'impermanence' or 'mutability'.

Nobuo Suzuki explains this concept as 'everything in the world is constantly changing, nothing in the universe stands still'.Smells, sounds, tastes, emotions, thoughts and bodies. Everything starts, changes, stops, and starts again. Change and transience are the base of our existence and everything around us.

In our Dō-In practice, we use this philosophy to appreciate every moment without burdening ourselves with worries of the past or fear of the uncertainty of the future. I dare say that within Dō-In we practice the art of moving along with change.
